Mr. Sfundo Neliswa Mkhonza

A young man who healed from Jozini in the Kwa Zulu Natal province. Mr. Sfundo Neliswa Mkhonza got the first position in a HUAWEI National competition. The Competition is an initiative of HUAWEI to encourage young people to occupy the space of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The Ekhurhuleni East TVET College has a standing agreement with HUAWEI to train students and lecturers on the ICT and Fourth Industrial Revolution expectations. The students were expected to do online training with the help of their lecturer. These courses would be attended during their spare time. The HUAWEI competition that was won by Sfundo was an extension of this package.

Sfundo Neliswa Mkhonza who is 19 years old, studies at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (EEC) Springs campus grow up in Jozini at Kwa-Zulu-Natal and relocated to Mpumalanga where he completed his secondary school and late enrolled with EEC in National Certificate Vocational (NCV) doing Information and Communications Technology(ICT) Level 3.

“My first year College experience was a bit emotional, however, the lecturers were friendly and helpful. The College Lifestyle was different from life in Secondary school,” said Mr. Mokhonza.

The first time I heard about the HUAWEI Competition was when we were briefed by the Campus Manager Ms. Ashnie Soorajpal, I took a chance to join the competition to see where it will take me. However, I should say it was a struggle because the competition took place during the exam time.

He mentions that Mr. Hlophe, who taught him the course Introduction to Information Systems help him a lot during the competition. He used to assist him with assignments for the competition.

Mr. Sisoko, the head of ICT in springs, said “they will use this achievement to encourage other students to participate in other upcoming competitions”.
