Ekurhuleni East TVET College Student Compete in the 47th WorldSkills International Competition

Ekurhuleni East TVET College’s 20-year-old extraordinary student Nhlanhla Sigentsu from Kwa-Thema in Springs, studying Hospitality in the faculty of Creative and Social Service at Springs Campus. This phenomenal female student, participated in the National World Skills South Africa Competition (WSSA) in the category of Baking.

The National WorldSkiIIs Competition South Africa was hosted by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the Competition is an important way to both promote skilled careers to young people and to open up potential partnerships with industry.

The journey to Nhlanhla Sigentsu’s triumph started when the young lady took part in the National World Skills South Africa Competition. Where she ended up annihilating her opponents and becoming a Champion for the region, and she was chosen as a top student in the Gauteng Province to compete in the World Skills National Competition finals in Durban from the 1st to 3rd February 2024.

The finals proved to be a tough nut to crack for the 20-year-old Ms. Sigentsu, as she baked with meticulous, intricate, style and taste, during the nationals that took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, where she was against more than 200 Competitors from all provinces in South Africa, who stood a chance to become the best in South Africa and become selected to compete on the global stage at the WorldSkilIs Lyon 2024.

Ms. Sigentsu conquered all the provinces that took part in the National World Skills Competition in the baking category, to prove she’s not the best only in Gauteng, but also in South Africa, as she is going to the WorldSkills Champions Trust to compete Internationally and represent the Republic Of South Africa.
