Terms and Conditions 



1. General Rules of Conduct


Behaviour which disrupts the activities of the Library and Information Centre or impinges on the right to a quiet and orderly work and study environment of other library clients is not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:


  • a) Smoking is not permitted in the library or within a five meters radius of the library entrance.


  • b) Consumption of food and drinks is not permitted in the library. The exception is water in transparent bottles.


  • c) Silence will strictly be observed in the library.


  • d) No talking on cell phones is allowed in the library.


  • e) Reservation of seats is not permitted. Books and other articles left unattended for 15 minutes or more on chairs and tables may be removed by the library staff for safe keeping.


  • f) The library will not accept responsibility for lost or misplaced personal belongings.


  • g) The library management may amend the library Rules and Regulations as and when necessary.


  • h) The library staff on duty has the right to request a user to leave the premises if he/she if found to be violating any of the library rules.
    Security staff as well as library staff in the Campus Libraries is responsible for enforcing the Rules of Conduct and the right of admission to a library may be withdrawn by the Campus Librarian if a client violates the library rules




2. Holds


Library items have to be returned on or before the due date. The Team Leader of the Circulation Service has the right to request the return of library material(s) before the end of the loan period, if it is urgently needed by another client.



3. Lost and Damaged Items


  • a) Borrowers will be held responsible for items loaned to them.


  • b) If library material is lost or damaged, the borrower will be responsible for its replacement as well as for the payment of fines and other administrative costs.


  • c) In your own interest report a lost College/Library card immediately to the librarian on duty at the Lending desk.


  • d) The library will not take responsibility for items loaned on a lost card which has not been reported as lost to the library.


4. Bills and Fines


  • a) A fine will be imposed for the late return of library material. The rate will be revised annually.


  • b) No service will be provided to clients with outstanding fines or overdue library items on their account.


  • c) Students with outstanding fines or damaged or lost items billed against their account will not be able to do the following until all debts have been settled:
    • i) View their examination results;
      ii) Register the following year.
      iii)View or print their academic record;
      iv) Received their graduation certificate.


5. Computers


  • a) Computers in the library may only be used for academic information searches. They may not be used for social networking or entertainment.


  • b) Only the IT division of the library may install or delete any program or service on the computers in the library.


The purpose of these rules is to safeguard the common interest of all users and to enable the Library to carry out its functions as efficiently as possible. Failure to observe these rules can lead to legal actions being taken against the transgressor.
