IT Support

IT support is technical support for computer hardware, software and networks to users of those computer systems. It is performed by computer technicians. It involves:

  • Installing computer hardware – they have knowledge of computer architecture; they assemble computer components and peripherals.
  • Installing computer software – they have knowledge of computer software, e.g. operating systems and software applications; they configure computer software
  • Creating computer networks – they have knowledge of computer connectivity protocols; they create computer networks through cabling and special network devices
  • Responding to computer end-user queries – they help computer users in distress; they attend to IT queries
  • Troubleshooting and resolving computer faults – they search for faults in computers and computer systems; they use special hardware tools and software programmes to search for and find faults; they follow procedures to get computers and computer systems operating again
